Stakeholder emphasize on digital learning, literacy and capacity building

 

Kathmandu - EdChange Nepal also celebrated Digital Learning Day 2023 in Nepal. With the aim of encouraging and promoting digital learning and practice, Digital Learning Day was celebrated by organizing a program on 'Empowering the Future through Digital Learning' on Thursday.

The program which was started under the chairmanship of President of EdChange Nepal; Dr. Rajeshwori Malla had the chief guest of the event as the MP and leader of Nepali Congress NP Saud. Former Minister of Science and Technology; Ganesh Shah, Vice Chancellor of Open University; Prof. Dr. Silu Manandhar Bajracharya and Padam Shahi, member of Sudurpaschim Pradesh Assembly, were present as the special guest.

President of PABSON; DK Dhungana, Co-President of PABS; Subash Neupane, Dean of Kathmandu University School of Education; Prof. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology; Subash Dhakal, Director of Education and Human Resource Development Center; Govinda Prasad Aryal and other personalities from the education sector were present to make the program a grand success.

In the program held at Hotel Himalaya, Kupandole, various experts presented working papers, panel sessions and idea pitching.

The speakers in the program emphasized on digital learning, literacy and building the capacity of teachers.

Welcoming the participants in the program, founder of EdChange Nepal; Mr. Vikesh Maharjan said that 'EdChange Nepal' has been established to promote qualitative and digital education.

Stating that the state should come forward for digital education, NP Saud, the chief guest of the program, promised to take initiative in parliament and government for improving the condition of digital education.

Likewise, DK Dhungana; President of Pabson, said that digital education has become a vital part of education.

Speaking at the event, former minister Ganesh Shah emphasized that the government should invest in education. "Country will be prosperous only if investment is made in education," he said. Emphasis should be placed on developing the ecosystem of digital education.'

Dean of Kathmandu University; Prof. Dr. Balchandra Luitel, who was the main speaker in the program informed that AI has become more refined as well as creative and problem-oriented learning should be done to uplift the education system.

Assistant Professor of Nepal Open University; Dr. Bhojraj Ghimire presented his work paper on the efforts, challenges, works to be done and shortages in digital education.

A panel discussion was also held in the program. As speakers in the session, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology; Subash Dhakal, Director of Education and Human Resource Center; Gobinda Prasad Aryal, Head of Education Branch of UNESCO Nepal; Dr. Dhurva Raj Regmi, Pabson Co-Chairman; Subash Neupane and Deputy Mayor of Nagarjuna Municipality; Sushila Adhikari were present for the panel discussion.

The session was conducted and facilitated by Hempal Shrestha, co-founder of ICT Foundation Nepal and a knowledge management expert.

In the panel discussion session, Deputy Secretary Dhakal emphasized that everyone should cooperate for digital learning. He says that the system should be centralized and the content should be localized.

Similarly, another speaker, Gobinda Aryal, while giving information about the work done by the center, admitted that due to various reasons, it was not able to do as much work as it should have been doing in the field of digital learning.

Similarly, Dr. Dhurva Raj Regmi informed that there is a gap in learning and teaching capacity in remote areas of Nepal.

Similarly, while speaking in the session, Subash Neupane of Pabson said that education without digitalization cannot be imagined. Similarly, Deputy Mayor Adhikari said that for digital learning, everyone should move forward with the spirit of co-operation, co-ordination and co-existence.

In the program, teachers presented new ideas about teaching practices.

Neema Academy, Nepal Telecommunication Authority, Nepal College of Information Technology, Mentor Lab, Lord Buddha Education Foundation, Upgrad, Codingal, World Vision, Save the Children, Child Fund, Child SafeNet, Apex Life School, N-PABSON, Living with ICT, ICT Foundation Nepal participated in the program which was organized by EdChange Nepal. The program was organized in collaboration between Kathmandu University and Nepal Open University.
